Ficus binnendijkii Amstel King has large, leathery, banana-shaped leaves and is a low-maintenance, versatile and attractive indoor greenery option. New leaf growth is flushed pink and red which adds extra interest. It is closely related to the Ficus Alii and is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Ficus longifolia.

Branching out? This Ficus has long thin side branches that might need an occasional trim to maintain its sleek shape.
Although more robust than many other Ficus, leaf drop may still occur with insufficient light or incorrect watering. Adjust as necessary and your plant should quickly recover.
Sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems! This can be an irritant, so make sure to wash your hands if any comes into contact with your skin.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade and some early morning or late afternoon sun. Direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. It is less likely than other Ficus to drop its leaves when moved.
Watering
Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not over water as this will cause leaf drop and can lead to waterlogged roots and rot.
Temperature
The Narrow Leafed Fig does well in normal household temperatures but prefers slightly warmer conditions: between 16-24°C. Avoid cold draughts.
Humidity
No specific requirements, although the occasional misting wouldn’t go amiss, particularly during the winter when the heating is on.
Feed
Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.

The Narrow Leafed Fig is a fast-growing plant in optimal conditions, typically reaching an ultimate height of 3 metres. Prune to maintain desired height.

Considered poisonous due to the latex in the sap, therefore keep away from children and animals. Avoid this plant if you have a latex allergy. Contains allergens that may result in asthma symptoms.
